For the lyricism of its contents and the versatility of its language, the Chilean Diamela Eltit was recognized yesterday with American Award for Literature "José Donoso "2010, awarded by the University of Talca.

The award was instituted in memory of prominent Chilean Jose Donoso narrator (1924-1996) and is equipped with 30 thousand dollars, a diploma and a medal, to be delivered during the next Book Fair Talca, Maule Region , to be held from 6 to 11 October.

Eltit thanked the award and expressed the importance of receiving an award bearing the name of a modern man, friendly and thoughtful, with whom he said had the privilege of having a friendship, and from which said fan.

According to the jury, Diamela Eltit has been awarded for excellence in creative writing and its ethical commitment in his work, in addition to its high profile nationally and internationally.

In his books, Eltit breaks with the traditional novel environments through sordid and marginal characters with a narrative composed of ambiguous language and exaltation to the body of the woman who suffers.

Ottmar Ette, president of the jury, and now doctor at the University of Potsdam, Germany, highlighted the long International career Chilean author referred to the extensive list of books translated into other languages.

Diamela Eltit is candidate for the National Prize for Literature for his body of work, among which include texts such as "A mile of crosses on the pavement", "Lumpérica", "For the motherland" and "The Watchmen" latter most awarded her novel.

Diamela Eltit is "Global Professor" in creative writing at New York University, where he also taught fiction workshops and courses on the contemporary short story in Latin America.
